Food for Thought lecture by historian Durant Ashmore
Charleston’s grand Lowcountry estates and the rugged Ninety-Six backcountry farms may seem worlds apart—but during the American Revolution, they were united by a single goal: self-determination
Did you know that more than 100 Revolutionary War battles were fought within 50 miles of Charleston and the Ninety-Six District—more than any other region in America? Despite vast differences in culture, wealth, and environment, both communities fought for the same fundamental purpose: the right of self-determination. Join us for a dynamic program exploring the people, places, and battles that made South Carolina one of the most crucial theaters of the American Revolution.
Food for Thought Lectures are held at the Capt. James Missroon House at 40 East Bay Street, Historic Charleston Foundation's headquarters, in the community room, on the 3rd floor overlooking the High Battery. Each program includes a light lunch to enjoy during the talk. Tickets are required and space is limited.
